University of Allahabad

University of Allahabad came into being in 1887 in the city of Allahabad which is in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The university was transformed into a Central University an Act of Parliament. The university was once known as the ‘Oxford of East’. The university is one of the most prestigious universities in India. It imparts education in various subjects including Arts, Science etc.

Programs and Courses

The following are the different academic departments offering degrees and performing research at the university. Faculty of Arts includes departments of Economics, Geography, Hindi, Medieval & Modern, History, Music & Performing Arts, Physical Education, Political Science, Psychology, Sanskrit, Urdu, Journalism and Mass Communication, U G C - Academic Staff College, Department of Visual Arts and BFA (Fine Arts). Faculty of Science includes departments of Bio-Chemistry, Botany, Chemistry, Defence and Strategic Studies, Earth & Planetary Sciences, Energy Sciences, Electronics & Communication also known as J K Institute of Applied Physics and Technology, Mathematics, Photography, Physics, Zoology, Statistics and Home Science. Permanent faculty positions under tenth plan of UGC for courses running under projects/self finance mode has K. Banerjee Center of Atmospheric and Ocean Studies (KBCAOS), Centre of Food Technology, Centre of Bio-Engineering, Centre of Bioinformatics, Centre of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences, Centre of Environmental Science, Centre of Material Science, Department of Physical Education(Re-structure), Centre of Globalization and Development Studies, School of Modern Languages and Department of Sociology. Permanent faculty positions under eleventh plan of UGC have Institute of film and theatre. Independent centre includes Centre of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences. Arts Faculty Courses includes Department of Physical Education (Re-structure), School of Language, Department of Sociology. Institute of Professional Studies has Centre of Computer Education & Communications, Centre of Food Technology, Centre of Media Studies, Centre of Fashion Design, and Centre of Human Resources Planning. Institute of Inter Disciplinary Studies includes K. Banerjee Center of Atmospheric and Ocean Studies (KBCAOS), IIDS estd. 2000, M. N. Saha Centre of Space Studies (MNC0SS), IIDS estd. 2001, Centre of Material Sciences, 2009, Centre of Bio-Technology, Centre of Bioinformatics, Centre of Social Research & Development, Centre of Globalization and Development Studies, Centre of Environmental Science. Purely Project Funded Centre includes Nanophosphor Application Centre, 2005.

Admission Procedure 2024 - 2025

Since there are many departments of the university so the eligibly criteria might differ. However, the general criteria for the admission in the undergraduate courses require an individual to pass the intermediate education successfully. Apart from that, for the admissions in the postgraduate courses, bachelor degree is required. For foreign students the criteria for admission is following GMAT = 550 GRE = 280 SAT = 1600.
