The Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka is considered as public sector university that provides quality education to its students. It was developed in 1981 through an Act of Parliament. the major goal of this university is the propagation of Buddha Dharma, the promotion of Buddhist and Pali studies at national and international level. The university is the greatest member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

Faculties

There are two Faculties of the University:
  1. Faculty of Buddhist Studies
  2. Language Studies

Departments

Following are the departments of the university:
Pali Language and Literature, Sinhala Language and Literature, Sanskrit Language and Literature English Language and Literature, Buddhist Philosophy, Inter Religious and Comparative Philosophy Buddhist Culture, Buddhist Arts and Archaeology

External Studies:

Apart from its regular courses and programs, the university also offers various Diploma courses as part of its external program. These include:
Diploma in Buddhism,Buddhist Counseling,Chinese Language, English, Pali, Sanskrit, Tamil and Postgraduate Diploma in Buddhism

Admission Procedure 2024 - 2025

Admission is based on merit through as act of Buddhist and Pali University and Council of the University.
The minimum requirements for the admission of international students in the University’s internal program are:
At least 3 'S' Grades in all subjects including Pali, Buddhism or Buddhist Civilization and any other subject at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination with minimum 30% marks for the Common General Paper at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination.
OR
At least 3 'S' Grades in all subjects including either Sanskrit, History or Sinhala with the subject of Pali with minimum 30% marks for the Common General Paper at the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination.
OR Candidates should have obtained the qualification deemed equivalent to G.C.E. (Advanced Level) Examination in Sri Lanka. The Candidates who have got the qualifications as per para 3 (a) above without the subject of Pali should have passed one year Diploma in Pali conducted 2 by the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka or posses any other qualifications in Pali equivalent to the above Diploma course.
