The Open University of Sri Lanka was established in 1978. Its purpose was to provide education for working adults. It is the only university to offer programs of study leading to certificate, diploma, degree, postgraduate diploma and postgraduate degree through the Distance Mode/ Learning. The Distance Learning function works through various study and area centers. The students receive specially designed self-instructional material.
Programs and Courses
The University offers following programs: Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Bachelor of Education (Natural Sciences), Bachelor of Technology (Engineering), Bachelor of Industrial Studies, and Bachelor of software engineering, Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences, Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) and Bachelor of Arts in English Language & English Language Teaching. Diploma Programs: Commonwealth Diploma in Youth in Development Work, Diploma in Technology (Engineering), Diploma in English and Diploma in Early Childhood & Primary Education Program. Postgraduate Programs: Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy, Master of Arts Degree in Development Studies and Public Policy, Master of Arts in Teacher Education, Master of Arts in Teacher Education (International), Master of Technology in Industrial Engineering, Master of Technology in Construction Management, Master of Science in Environmental Sciences, Master of Education, Commonwealth Executive Master of Business Administration, Commonwealth Executive Master of Public Administration.
