Tamil University was established in the year 1981 in the city of Thanjavur which is in the Indian city of Tamil Nadu. The campus sprawls over an area of 900acres. The university aims to impart higher education in various fields including Tamil, Arts, Culture, and Science etc.

Programs and Courses

Tamil University offers special programs in Sculpture and underwater Archaeology, Translation, and Lexicography.

Programs:

Following are the faculties along with their respective departments in which the courses ranging from undergraduate to doctoral are offered. Faculty of Arts has Department of Sculpture, Music, and Drama. Faculty of Manuscriptology has Department of Palmleaf Manuscriptology, Rare Paper Manuscriptology, Epigraphy and Underwater Archaeology Centre. Faculty of Developing Tamil has Department of Tamil Studies in Foreign Countries,Translation, Lexicography, Social Science, Scientific Tamil and Tamil Development, Education. Faculty of Language has Department of Literature, Linguistics, Philosophy, Tribal Research Center, School of Indian Languages, and Folklore. Faculty of Science has Department of Siddha Medicine, Ancient Science, Industries and Earth Sciences, Computer Science,Architecture and Environmental and Herbal Science.

Admission Procedure 2024 - 2025

For the admission in the undergraduate programs, an applicant should successfully clear the intermediate first. Some departments award admission through entrance test and some departments through merit basis. Now coming to the admissions in the postgraduate programs, one should have bachelor’s degree from a recognized institute. In order to get admission in different programs students are required to pass valid CAT / XAT / MAT / GMAT Score.
