The University of the Visual & Performing Arts has undergone many evolutionary periods but the President of Sri Lanka formally announced the establishment of the University of the Visual & Performing Arts on 1st July 2005.
The university has the distinction of being the only university dedicated to the study of visual arts in the Country. The aim of the university is to cultivate the culture and heritage through the study of visual arts.

Programs and Courses

Faculty of Dance and Drama includes departments of History and Theory of Dance and Drama, Indian & Asian Dance, Instrumental Music, Low Country Dance, Sabaragamuwa Dance, Theatre, Ballet and Modern Dance and Up Country Dance. Faculty of Music includes the departments of Applied Music, Carnatic Music, Comparative Music, Ethno-Musicology, North Indian Classical and Western Music. Faculty of Visual Arts is also the part of the university.

Admission Procedure 2024 - 2025

The applicants desiring to get admission must meet the requirements laid down by the UGC. Normally, Z score in GCE A/level is required for undergraduate courses and bachelors degree for postgraduate courses. Applicants from overseas must have GRE passed.
