The University of Sri Jayewardenepura is situated in Nugegoda. The university came into being in the year 1959. The university provides quality education in various academic fields, Specially graduate and post graduate courses in medicine, Forestry, and Environment Science.

Faculties and Departments

Faculty of Applied Sciences has Department of Physics, Department of Mathematics, Department of Statistics and Computer Science, Department of Chemistry, Department of Botany, Department of Zoology, Department of Forestry and Environmental Science and Department of Food Science and Technology. Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has Department of Economics, Department of Political Science, Department of English, Department of Geography, Department of History and Archeology, Department of Pali and Buddhist Studies, Department of Languages and Cultural Studies, Department of Sinhala and Mass Communication, Department of Social Statistics and Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce has Department of Public Management and special units are Information Technology Resource Centre (ITRC), Accounting Resource Centre (ARC) and Small and Medium Enterprise Development Support Unit (SMEDSU). Faculty of Medical Sciences has departments of Anatomy, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Family Medicine, Forensic Medicine, Medical Education and Health Sciences, Medicine, Microbiology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Parasitology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Psychiatry and Surgery.

Admission Procedure 2024 - 2025

For the admission in the undergraduate programs, one must successfully clear the GCE advanced level test. The admissions requirements for the postgraduate course are determined by the departments. Foreign students are required to prove that their education(outside Sri Lanka) is equivalent to GCE Advanced level in order to get the admission and if it is not equivalent than they must pass this examination.
